FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

SENIOR PASTOR QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
PURPOSE AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Senior Pastor is a full time, salaried position whose responsibility is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. The Senior Pastor shall be accountable to God and then to the Elders of First Baptist. The church currently averages 155 in attendance at Worship Services. Other paid staff positions are Family Pastor and Pastoral Assistant.
PREACHING & TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Preach the Word of God during Worship, as well as provide clear and edifying Biblical instruction and application.
- Provide accurate Scripturally-based interpretation of doctrine.
- Present edifying and loving instruction for the “equipping of the saints”.
- Promote the importance of effective personal and corporate prayer.
- Conduct baptisms, Communion, weddings, funerals, and other appropriate services.
- Perform the majority of preaching and coordinate the pulpit supply.
RESPONSIBILITIES TO CONGREGATION:
- Administer pastoral care for members, as well as perceiving their spiritual needs.
- Foster an approachable, caring relationship with members while engaging in discipleship.
- Disciple, evangelize and counsel people of all ages.
- Lead and coordinate hospital and home visits with current and prospective members.
RESPONSIBILITIES WITH ELDERS:
- Engage with Elders to seek and follow Jesus Christ to build His Church within First Baptist and the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES WITH STAFF & VOLUNTEERS:
- Supervise paid employees and volunteers in ministry.
- Nurture effective communication between staff and lay leaders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Personally experienced the eternal life-saving grace of Jesus Christ.
- Current testimony of active life-impacting relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Meet the qualifications of I Timothy 3.
- Demonstrate a thorough and continuing pursuit of understanding biblical theology essential for a life of Godliness.
- A degree from an evangelical seminary is preferred.
- Prefer previous experience in the role as Senior Pastor.
- Demonstrate an effective leadership of church bodies, ministries, and personnel
- Able to satisfactorily fulfill the Senior Pastor responsibilities listed above.
- Be in complete agreement with First Baptist’s doctrine as summarized in First Baptist Membership Covenant, and Statement of Faith (see fbionline.org)
- Effectively balance vocational responsibilities with home and family life.
