General Summary

The Next Gen Pastor is responsible for finding, equipping, and supporting leaders for the work of ministry. In addition to the ministry duties set forth below, his role consists mostly of directing, coaching, and executing the vision of the church while ensuring alignment with the church’s mission and core values. He will be a passionate leader, building teams of staff and volunteers by engaging, supporting, and equipping them with the intent to build a strong pipeline of leaders and relational disciple-making groups throughout the church. He will lead others, self, and his family to live according to the church’s teaching and practices. He will carry out the church’s mission and perform his duties consistent with the church’s theological beliefs and standards.

Goals and Expectations

Disciple-Making and Leader Development

  • Enlist, equip, and empower disciple-making coaches, leaders, and volunteers.
  • Equip and support parents to be the primary disciple-makers of their children.
  • Personally engage in Disciple-Making through Life Groups and D-Groups
  • Provide ongoing leadership training and development for leadership teams
  • Produce Disciple-making leaders who multiply and support the church’s vision.
  • Supervise two paid Ministry Associates

Middle School (5th-8th), High School (9th-12th), and Young Adult Ministry

  • Oversee the environment set up and weekly programming for each ministry area
  • Develop age-appropriate relational environments, small groups, and classes that lay a strong foundation for disciple-making ownership and community
  • Build strong, Christ-centered relationships with middle school, high school, and young adults
  • Oversee the planning and execution of all ministry events for each age group including retreats, camps, and special events
  • Engage local schools and college campuses for open doors to make connections
  • Develop transitions for middle school, high school, and young adults as they enter and leave.
  • Instill in the students, and young adults a love for the local church

Next Gen Missions

  • Create opportunities for all to serve local community ministries and missions.
  • Support the church’s vision to have an indispensable impact in the community
  • Mobilize middle school, high school, and young adults as mission advocates
  • Lead an annual mission trip for Next Gen students

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience
    • Master’s degree in theology from a nationally accredited seminary or equivalent
    • 5 years related experience and/or training
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Desire to enlist, equip and empower volunteers for ministry
    • Ability to develop leaders and grow ministry
    • Desire to work collaboratively on a team
    • Vision for a Disciple-Making church
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers, church members or staff members of the organization.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Must have knowledge of internet, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

    • Current Driver License
    • Licensed or Commissioned for Ministry

Other Requirements

  • Be a covenant member of First Baptist Mansfield by living out the 7 verbs: Believe, Multiply, Give, Belong, Worship, Go, and Serve; regularly attend church services
  • Attend new employee orientation including training on the church covenant membership and disciple-making leaders
  • Participate in ongoing training and continuing education in theology, evangelism, and leadership development
  • Agreement of the Church’s Statement of Faith and Leadership Behaviors
  • Conduct personal life and lead family according to the church’s teaching and practices.
  • Acknowledgement of policies and procedures as stated in the church’s Staff Handbook, Safety Handbook, and Financial Handbook
