PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

To intentionally lead teenagers toward spiritual maturity, by:

  1. Winning and discipling students to have an intimate and personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and
  2. Equipping them to fulfill the Great Commission to the glory of God.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Student Pastor is responsible for ministering to all students, grades 7th to 12th. “Ministry” is defined as Biblical evangelism and discipleship, including all common relational aspects of Student Ministry: planning, developing, coordinating, and leading students, volunteers, and parents/guardians in a manner that strives for excellence, truthfulness, and appropriateness in glorifying Jesus Christ as Lord.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Evidence of personal salvation and a growing, healthy, mature relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Exhibit 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 Character and skills.
  • Spends time in prayer on a daily basis.
  • Spends time in daily study of God's Word.
  • Is engaged in consistent memorization of Scripture.
  • A spiritual calling and passion for ministry to students.
  • Theologically sound and proficient in teaching the Word of God as revealed in both the Old and New Testaments.
  • Ability to understand and interpret the current world and community culture, and assist students in navigating the world as Christ-followers in a way that is theologically astute yet thoroughly relevant.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a contributing and cooperating partner on the FBCH Ministry Team.
  • Willingness to maintain a dynamic Student Ministry philosophy, consistent with the values of FBCH, yet sensitive to the unique cultural setting of Hamlin and the west Texas region.
  • Ability to plan, organize, train, and supervise Student Ministry and related events through the investment in, and development of, volunteer leaders and parents.
  • Ability to function as a family resource to provide information to parents/guardians on issues relevant to students’ lives.
  • Experience in Student Ministry is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills,
    • with a keen ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing,
    • with FBCH staff, Student Ministry volunteers, Church members, the Hamlin community, and others.
  • Committed to personal and professional development.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide pastoral care and nurture by forming authentic relationships with students.
  • Lead in planning, coordinating, and unifying all 7th – 12th-grade student ministries, nurturing the relational, spiritual, educational, physical, and emotional development of students.
  • Recruit, develop, and support volunteer leaders to serve in the Student Ministry, including preparing and leading regular Student Ministry Leadership Team meetings.
  • Provide for the planning, coordination, and evaluation of special events such as camps, retreats, mission trips, fun activities, etc.
  • Give guidance to the Student Praise Band.
  • Create an environment of pastoral care for healthy relationships to flourish:
    • Among students
    • Among parents
    • Between students and parents
    • Between the Student Pastor and the groups listed above, as well as volunteers, Church staff, and the broader Church family.
  • Create a positive environment for students to grow.
  • Plan and implement long-range goals for the Student Ministry.
  • Administer the Student Ministry annual budget with the Student Ministry Leadership Team.
  • Lead the overall Student Ministry into active service and authentic participation with the Church family.
  • Work with the Senior Pastor and Church staff to create publications to notify the Church family of upcoming events promptly and effectively.
  • Maintain consistent communication with parents/guardians of students and volunteers.
  • Participate in and attend, as able, school activities and student functions.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

CHURCH MINISTRY STAFF EXPECTATIONS:

  • Participate in corporate worship leadership as requested and as gifts apply.
  • Establish office hours to be mutually agreed upon with the Senior Pastor.
  • Participate in the following meetings:
  • Weekly Ministry Staff meetings,
  • Student Ministry Leadership Team meetings,
  • FBCH Church meetings, and
  • Volunteer staff meetings and staff/Leadership Team retreats.
  • Live and work in the community that forms the mission setting of FBCH.
  • Participate in an annual evaluation of Student Ministry with the Senior Pastor.
  • Be supportive of the spirit and aims of the FBCH.
