Open Position:    Senior Pastor - North Oaks Baptist Church (NOBC)          www.nobc.church

The Senior Pastor, along with the Elders, provides spiritual oversight and leadership direction to the congregation. He is to preach, disciple, evangelize, lead in the sacraments, and counsel those in need. He is to be the champion of the church’s mission statement and vision.

The responsibilities of the Senior Pastor are as follows:

1. The Senior Pastor is to preach and/or teach in both the Sunday morning and Sunday evening services. He should also lead the Wednesday Bible Study, though he may delegate the teaching portion of the evening study.
2. The Senior Pastor is to work with the Minister of Music/Worship Team leader in preparing appropriate worship services. These services should be well-prepared, honoring to the Lord, and in a form that is most suitable for our congregation.
3. The Senior Pastor will delegate and oversee the planning of evangelism, mission, and outreach training and activities. He will oversee the assimilation of new attendees and work toward creating an inviting environment in the congregation. He will encourage the membership to grow personally in these areas.
4. The Senior Pastor is to regularly lead the congregation in the Lord’s Supper or Communion. This should be done at least four times a year including Easter and Christmas. He should also lead regarding baptisms.
5. The Senior Pastor will participate in and oversee the Christian education of all ages. This includes Sunday School, youth, and adult education. He will delegate many of these responsibilities to volunteers in the church.
6. The Senior Pastor will provide short-term counseling as needed. He will be available and responsive to crisis situations. He will provide pastoral care through the most effective means possible.
7. The Senior Pastor is responsible for all administration of the church. This includes office, staff, janitorial, grounds and buildings. This is not to imply that the Pastor will do these things: only that he will oversee and delegate them as appropriate.
8. The Senior Pastor will lead and guide all other members of the pastoral staff. He will be responsible to ensure that all staff and volunteers, pastoral and otherwise, fulfill the requirements of their job descriptions.
9. The position requires great flexibility in time and scheduling. The Senior Pastor should be available for evening activities as well as work on the weekends. The Senior Pastor is free to take one to two days off each week depending upon the needs of the congregation.
10. The Senior Pastor will perform or lead in other areas that may be identified in the NOBC By-Laws.

Senior Pastor Scriptural Responsibilities:

1. Acts 20:28: Together with the Elders - oversight of the church

Be on guard for yourselves and all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

2. 1 Peter 5:1-3: Share authority with others and shepherd the church

Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed.

Shepard the flock of God among you, excising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness.

Nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.

3. Acts 6:4 and 1 Tim 5:17-19: Teach the Word of God and pray

But we will devote ourselves to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing and The Laborer is worthy of his wages.” Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses.

4. Acts 15:6: Together with the Elders - Resolve doctrinal issues

And the apostles and the elders came together to look into this matter.

5. 1 Peter 5:1-2: Godly example to the church

6. James 5:14: Pray for the sick

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

7. 18:15-17: Together with the Elders - Church discipline

And if your brother sins, go and reprove him in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.

But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed.

And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax-gatherer.
