Description

This is a full-time pastoral position at First Baptist Church, Dumas, Texas. This pastor will work alongside the Senior Pastor and the Pastor for Youth and Families. The primary responsibilities of this pastor will be to lead the congregation in corporate worship through song, supplementing that with choirs, handbells, instruments, and other ensembles and groups as needed. This is a pastoral position, which involves caring for the spiritual needs of the people at FBC beyond the music ministry alone. Preaching, teaching, visiting, and other pastoral duties will be central to this position.

We value congregational worship and singing in our corporate worship services, and would expect that to be the focus of the music ministry at FBC Dumas. We are technically “blended” in our musical style, but lean heavily towards traditional. However, we are not stuck in any particular musical style; we want to learn and grow, singing old and new songs that carry theological and biblical truth, while also being accessible and singable by the congregation. Our typical repertoire includes hymns, gospel songs, and modern songs by ministries such as Sovereign Grace, the Gettys, and CityAlight.

Our students and children are not merely the church of tomorrow, they are the church right now. We want to build a multi-generational worship ministry at FBC that trains and equips children and youth for service in the local church now, and for the rest of their lives. Training the next generation via children’s and youth choirs, ensembles, solos, sound, media, and other ministries will be a big component of this position.

The breakdown for this position would look something like this:

  • Music and Worship Ministry (services, choir, handbells, etc.)- 75%
  • Pastoral duties such as preaching, teaching, visiting, etc.- 15%
  • Other areas of ministry to be determined- 10%

Requirements

A seminary degree is preferred, but we will gladly consider candidates with an undergrad degree in music, worship, and other related fields. Additional Bible and theological training would also be a plus.

This is a pastoral position. As such, the candidate must agree to and model the qualifications of an elder/ overseer/ pastor as listed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

We are a Southern Baptist church aligned with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention. Any elder/ overseer/ pastor on staff at FBC Dumas will subscribe to and teach and preach within the bounds of The Baptist Faith and Message (2000).
