ESL Instructional Coach Job Opening

Job Summary: The ESL Instructional Coach is a full-time support-raised ministry role reporting to the ESL Program Leader. The ESL Instructional Coach brings evidence-based practices into ESL curriculum development and builds up teacher capacity with the goal of improving student achievement and supporting the development of client-agency. The ESL Instructional Coach supports teachers in planning for level-appropriate, and culturally sensitive spiritual discussions that align with the curriculum, help clients feel valued and loved, and open doors for future God-centered conversations.
Areas of Responsibility:
Teacher Leadership
• Plan and execute teacher-training sessions and coordinate on-going professional development to equip teachers and interns for ESL ministry
• Meet with teachers prior to the first class to discuss student needs, course outlines, materials, supplemental resources, course goals and end-of-course testing
• Provide needs assessment survey materials to help teachers learn their students’ interests, needs and abilities
• Meet with teachers throughout the semester to assist with pacing, lesson planning, assessment, classroom routines, class activities, and integration of level-appropriate spiritual discussion
• Discuss student progress with teachers and explore resources for scaffolding and differentiation, as needed
• Observe teachers to provide insight into strengths, classroom culture, student progress, and growth opportunities Curriculum Development
? Select course materials based on student needs and course goals
? Obtain and organize course materials, including textbooks, classroom supplies and classroom technology
? Create supplemental materials to enhance course curriculum
? Ensure course outlines provide continuity in learning, effectively address student needs and are
aligned to end-of-course goals
? Obtain curriculum resources and organize a teacher resource library
? Give input into the design of PLI classrooms and the PLI Student Library so that the classroom
environment supplements course curriculum and enhances student learning
Student Support
? Oversee placement exams and determine initial class placement
? Coordinate student registration and enrollment
? Coordinate student orientation
? Encourage students throughout the semester using progress reports and goal setting
? Oversee end of course exams and determine student progress
? Track student progress over multiple semesters/years to suggest differentiated learning
opportunities
? Oversee the English Lab to ensure students have access to digital learning resources
Necessary Skills & Qualities:
? Strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate with staff and volunteers
? Highly motivated and ambitious individual with creative ideas
? Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work within diverse groups
? Demonstrated commitment to multi-cultural ministry
? Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
Required Education and Experience:
? Bachelors Degree required, advanced degree preferred in adult ESL, educational leadership, school
administration or related field
? TESOL/TEFL or equivalent certification
? A minimum of three years of ESL experience
