Description

Minister to Students

The basic expectations for the position include qualities of Christian character, ability to lead others spiritually, and the desire to lead others in spiritual growth. The qualifications include, but are not limited to the following:
• A personal relationship with Christ as Savior and Lord.
• A passion for the lost to trust Christ.
• A Calling to minister to students.
1. Work with the parents to plan, organize and implement an overall program for the youth (7th Grade – 12th Grade) at First Baptist Church. To this end we do not expect the Youth Director to be solely responsible for every youth activity, but instead we intend for him to equip and supports parents and other interested adults in the extended church family.
2. Assist parents in planning, organizing, supervising periods of worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and missions/evangelism for youth in addition to those scheduled for the whole congregation. (Acts 2:42-47, Luke 18:16)
3. Meet as needed, with youth committee to discuss and plan youth activities and programs, and to pray for our teenagers. Youth Camp, Disciple Now, Youth Evangelism Conference, Mission Trips are examples of youth events the youth director is responsible for planning and implementing. (Ephesians 4:11-14)
4. Lead a Bible Study for teenagers on Wednesday Night. (2 Timothy 4:2)
5. Promote the involvement of our youth in worship and church ministry. (Luke 2:52)
6. Develop relationships with local school officials and be available to speak on campus.
7. Plan and implement programs to support the parent/child relationship and to strengthen families. We recognize that not all children have the benefit of the Christian parents and we understand that the Minister to Students will have to make an extra effort to reach these young people. (Malachi 4:6)
8. Always be supportive of harmonious relationships between young people and their parents. While it is sometimes important for The Youth Director to provide a sympathetic ear to children and youth with family problems, he should be sensitive to the parental responsibility and to avoid inadvertently creating distance between parents and their children.
9. Prepare assigned budgets and submit them to the Budget and Stewardship Committee.
10. Be involved in the various visitation programs – hospital, visitors at worship services, new members, other members of the congregation, schools, school activities, etc. – as needed and as time permits.
11. Work closely with the other staff members and provide support for their ministries including meeting and retreats.
12. The Youth Minister reports to the Senior Pastor for supervision, oversight and ministry direction.
