Job Description: Interim Worship Leader

Role Overview

First Baptist Church, Georgetown, TX is seeking a spiritually mature and musically gifted Interim Worship Leader to guide our congregation and worship ministry through a season of leadership transition. This individual will serve as the primary "front person" for our worship services, providing a stable, consistent, and shepherding presence for our volunteers and staff.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who excels in a contemporary environment and is committed to stewarding the heart of our team for approximately 9 months (or until a permanent hire is found).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Spiritual & Team Shepherding
  • Provide pastoral care and encouragement to the worship team (band, praise team, choir, and winds).
  • Lead with humility, creating space to "feature" other vocalists and musicians to foster community and shared ministry.
  • Facilitate a culture of prayer and spiritual readiness within the worship department.
  1. Musical Leadership & Planning
  • Lead worship for Sunday morning services and the Wednesday evening prayer gathering as well as our quarterly Family Meetings.
  • Select songs that align with our "contemporary" style, drawing from the church’s established song library to maintain consistency and expand our library in conjunction with team input.
  • Direct and lead weekly Wednesday rehearsals for the band, praise team, choir (approx. 20 members), and winds section.
  • Arrange or adapt music as needed to accommodate the full ensemble.
  1. Coordination & Administration
  • Collaborate closely with the Associate Worship Leader and Worship Ministry Assistant to ensure seamless Sunday/Wednesday execution.
  • Work in tandem with the Tech Team (audio, visual, lighting) to ensure high-quality production and clear communication.
  • Manage scheduling and service flow through Planning Center (or equivalent software).

Qualifications & Skills

  • Pastoral Heart: A demonstrable ability to shepherd volunteers and navigate the emotional dynamics of a team in transition.
  • Vocal & Musical Range: Strong "front person" presence with the ability to lead a diverse range of musical styles (hymns to contemporary).
  • Collaborative Spirit: A "team-first" mentality with no hesitation in sharing the platform or highlighting the gifts of others.
  • Experience: Previous experience leading a full band, choir, and instrumentalists is highly preferred.
  • Technical Literacy: Familiarity with worship software (Planning Center, ProPresenter) and a basic understanding of live sound/tech needs.

Position Details

  • Reporting To: Executive Pastor.
  • Time Commitment: 15–20 hours per week (includes Sundays, Wednesday rehearsals, Wednesday prayer gathering, and administrative planning).
  • Expected Duration: Approximately 9 months or until a permanent Worship Pastor is seated.
  • Compensation: Contact Michael Sawyer, Executive Pastor, msawyer@fbg.church.
