Minister to Students and Families

MINISTER of STUDENTS and FAMILIES

First Baptist Church of Bowie, Texas

Principle Function:

The minister of students and families is responsible for the planning and implementation of comprehensive student discipleship and outreach programs with oversight of the children’s ministry. This minister may also be called upon to preach as needed.

Working Relationships:

The minister of students and families will be under the direct supervision of the pastor. When working in areas which overlap with existing ministers, this staff member will be responsible for coordinating plans and activities in consultation with them. The pastor will resolve any disputed responsibilities.

Qualifications:

• He must be a born-again believer of Jesus Christ, whose commitment and love for students and their families is evident in his personal life.
• He must have received a definite call into the ministry.
• He must have a solid knowledge of the Bible.
• He must be aligned with the Baptist Faith and Message and possess a degree in Biblical studies from an acceptable Baptist College or Seminary; or be in active pursuit of the degree.
• He must possess the ability to communicate with students and parents and understand their needs and the challenges that they face.
• He must have good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to stay up to date with technology.
• He must be able to pass a preemployment background check and drug test.

Primary Student Responsibilities:

• Ensure alignment with First Baptist Church’s mission, safety policies, and ministry goals.
• Plan, implement, direct, and evaluate the student ministry of the church by working with and through the student organizations of the church (including, but not limited to the student committee, student council, student choir, mission groups, and student Sunday School departments).
• Work with student program leaders (above) to develop a program for leading students to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and working toward a systematic discipleship program for the students of the church.
• Lead in planning and conducting student outreach activities and programs appropriate for the spiritual growth of the students, such as camps, mission trips, fellowships, retreats, Bible Studies, recreational activities, etc.
• Maintain personal contact with students; be available for spiritual counseling and maintain confidentiality when working with students and parents.
• Promote student praise band, coordinating with the minister of music.

• Present student ministry program budget to the budget & finance committee and demonstrate financial trustworthiness. Receipts for expenditure shall be turned in at least weekly to the financial clerk. Each receipt needs to indicate the budget line item it should be charged against and a brief description of the expenditure.

Primary Families Responsibilities

• Offer direction, support and accountability to the children’s ministry director and volunteers.
• Partner with the children’s ministry team to strengthen curriculum strategy, parent engagement, and volunteer development.
• Active engagement in Vacation Bible School and kid’s camp.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the pastor.

• One-week annual paid vacation after one year of service.
• Two weeks of annual paid vacation after two years of service.
• Three weeks of annual paid vacation after three years of service.

3. Conferences: all time-off to attend conferences must be approved by the Pastor.

Compensation: Salary in accordance with the annual church budget.
