Associate Pastor of Discipleship & Student Ministry

 

  1. General Description

    The mission of Pleasant Valley Church is to love God, love one another and reach the world with the gloriously good news of the Gospel. We are looking for an Associate Pastor who senses God calling him to devote himself to joining us in our mission. The Associate Pastor is responsible for creating, managing, and executing the areas of Discipleship and Students.
  2. Qualifications

The Associate Pastor must:

  • give evidence of salvation and a growing, healthy, mature relationship with the triune God of the Bible;
  • meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:6-9;
  • demonstrate a clear call to vocational ministry;
  • have earned or pursuing a degree in Biblical Studies or ministry related field;
  • have relative ministry experience concerning the responsibilities and expectations of the position;
  • be in full agreement with our statement of faith (BF&M 2000).

III. Essential Competencies & Giftings

  • A Passion for Discipleship. Must possess and be able to articulate a clear conviction that all God’s people are to be disciple making disciples to fulfill the great commission as they live out the great commandment. Passionate about leading a comprehensive discipleship path toward making disciples of Christ in and through the local church.
  • A love for Students. Must possess a deep love for middle/high schoolers (and their parents) and long to see them become fully-devoted followers of Christ.
  • A Missionary Heart. Loves to engage lost people with the gospel. Must have the ability to help others in sharing God’s Gospel as a response to God’s mission.
  • A Team Player. Maintain a humble spirit and commitment to teamwork with elders, deacons, staff, and church members.
  • An Effective Communicator. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • An Organized Leader. Ensures tasks are done correctly and thoroughly while knowing when greater attention to detail is needed toward completing tasks in a timely manner.
  1. Responsibilities and Expectations

Lead a comprehensive Gospel-centered discipleship strategy from Students (Grades 7-12) to Senior Adults that is Bible saturated and consistent with the values and mission of PVC. This position shares in leadership (voice/vote) alongside our team of elders and functions as an Associate to the Lead Pastor.

(1) Discipleship (45%)

  • Ensure sound doctrine is maintained in all areas of discipleship.
  • Develop or approve appropriate curriculum.
  • Shepherd and manage the ministry leaders for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Develop metrics to measure ongoing spiritual and numerical growth.
  • Help onboard and equip new members into serving on a ministry team or teams.
  • Oversee budget line items for differing parts of our Adult Discipleship.

(2) Students (45%)

  • Form authentic relationships with students/parents and lead them to inclusion within the body, including regular communication with students/parents and involvement in their lives outside of PVC.
  • Recruit, develop, and support volunteer leaders to serve in the Student Ministry, including preparing and leading regular Student Ministry Leadership Team meetings and overseeing the budget.
  • Provide for the planning, coordination, and evaluation of special events such as camps, retreats, mission trips, fun activities, etc.
  • Network with other student ministries to be informed of other ministry ideas and opportunities.  In particular, be informed of local events, concerts, gatherings, etc. for ministry.
  • Collaborate with PVC KIDS to ensure proper spiritual momentum in the lives of those who transition into our Student Ministry.
  • Serve as the point of contact for Providence Academy to ensure a healthy relationship.

(5) Pastoral Care (10%)

  • Attend corporate worship services, elder and staff meetings.
  • Be available to regularly preach in our public gatherings.
  • Conduct weddings/funerals as needed.
  • Provide Biblical counseling as needed for all people at PVC.
  • Provide other ministerial duties as assigned by Lead Pastor.
