Mission Statement:

The goal of the youth pastor (Middle school and High school age youth) is to develop a comprehensive approach to student ministry that will guide youth to become disciples for Christ, equipping them to share their faith with others.


  • Teach Sunday morning bible study (Sunday School) to the high school youth class (9th-12th) and Wednesday night bible study to all youth (6th-12th).
  • Serve in the Sunday night Awana ministry with the 3rd-5th graders to facilitate the development of relationships with these students prior to them formally promoting to the youth ministry.
  • Mentor the youth in the development of leadership skills that will include opportunities for youth-led church services that integrate the youth ministry into the larger ministry philosophy of the church. (i.e. Leading the church service (am and/or pm) when the pastor is unavailable; leading Vacation Bible School). Motivate and encourage the youth to actively participate in the many ministries and events the church offers.
  • Develop plans for monthly social activities in which the youth can experience Christian fellowship and encourage them to invite their non-Christian friends, with a strong focus on the summer months when the youth are not in school. Coordinate with the church’s youth committee and/or parents to assist in executing these plans. (i.e. fellowship meals, game nights, concerts, athletic events, basketball/volleyball tournaments).
  • Invest the time to maintain and enhance the partnership with the community and schools for outreach into the community (i.e.“5th Quarter” fellowships during the football season, occasional attendance of school athletic events, etc.) as well as the development of service projects that will demonstrate the love of Jesus outside the boundaries of our church walls.
  • Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings and activities.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with parents and the church congregation regarding upcoming events relating to youth activities (i.e. email, website, bulletin, newsletters, texting and/or Band app, videos, presentations, etc.).
  • Attend summer youth camp with SBC youth and encourage them to invite their non-Christian friends, as well as occasional area Christian youth events such as Disciple Now.
  • Plan and organize fundraising activities for the church’s youth & parents to participate in that will supplement the youth ministry budget in order to pay student fees for summer youth camp and youth events.
  • Fulfill any other duties as assigned by the pastor or the church.


  • Adhere to theology, values, mission, and statements of belief of Somerset Baptist Church.
  • Adhere to the theology, values, mission, and statements of belief of the Southern Baptist Convention, including the 2020 Baptist Faith and Message.
  • Candidates for this position must have made a personnel commitment to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills and computer skills.
  • Must agree to a background check and drug testing to be considered for this position.


The youth pastor reports to the pastor or a designee for spiritual and pastoral guidance. The pastor/ board of deacons will provide an annual evaluation of the youth pastor’s performance.
