The Pastor Search Committee of First Baptist Church, Hemphill, Texas is seeking to fill the position of Senior Pastor.
About Us
FBC was founded in the community in 1858 when Hemphill was organized. In 1886 construction began on a building and new sanctuaries replaced the preceding ones in 1910, 1962, 1984 and the Family Life Center was completed in 2009. Since its establishment, the church has provided spiritually and physically for the residents of Hemphill and Sabine County. We support local, state and international missions. Recently we expanded our pre-school program from a two-day program to a full-time, five-day program.
If you are unfamiliar with Hemphill, we are the County Seat for Sabine County. We are located in the Pineywoods of East Texas. We share the beautiful Toledo Bend Reservoir with our neighbors to the east of us in Louisiana.
Statement of Faith
“We affirm that the Holy Bible is the inspired word of God and the basis for our beliefs. This church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of THE BAPTIST FAITH AND MESSAGE as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000 (adopted June 14, 2015). We believe in one God eternally existing in three Persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to the lost. Role of the Pastor
The role of the pastor is to place God first, to have a love for Jesus and to be a born-again believer. The pastor should be committed to the inerrancy and authority of the Bible and agree with The Baptist Faith and Message 2000. He should possess the characteristics of a dynamic and energetic preacher and teacher of the Word of God. He should be a strong leader; one who is able to resolve conflict in a loving and Biblical way. He should be outgoing, personable and approachable with a compassionate heart to counsel those who are hurting and to provide spiritual guidance.
Professional Qualifications and Character
We are searching for an ordained Baptist minister with a devout personal faith in Christ and in the Baptist tradition. Our next pastor may be fresh out of seminary or near retirement age. Although not a requirement, we prefer our pastor to have completed seminary.
He should be upright in character, possess high moral standards with deep religious convictions, and be an exemplary spiritual leader of the church. He should be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. We desire a pastor who can provide effective leadership of church operations, participate in church committees while being impartial, patient and fiscally minded.
