Pastoral Job Description
Job Title: Worship Pastor
Type of Position: Part to Full-time
Compensation: Depending on experience and whether part or full-time, salary up to $65,000
Candidate Requirements
Work Experience: must demonstrate adequate ministry experience
Education: College degree and formal theological training preferred but not required
Principal Function
Lead the worship and music ministry, but in such a way that the music ministry does not solely depend on the person leading it. In other words, be able to equip and call others in the church to use their gifts to encourage and strengthen faith through music, whether that be on Sunday morning, at children’s choir, serving in the nursery, etc.
Qualifications
A candidate must be:
- A born again believer in Jesus Christ
- Able to affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
- Humble and Prayerful
- Godly and called to ministry, with a pastor’s heart who loves God’s people and desires to use music as a means of equipping and edifying the church
- Team Player able to work with all ages
- Good Communicator
- Gifted Musically
- Complements other people on staff, good fit in terms of chemistry and competence
- Wise and able to truly pastor all ages and types of people in our church and lead them in worship
- Able to contribute substantially in at least one other area besides music (e.g. administrative, social media/website, age specific ministry, etc.)
A candidate should also be:
- Creative
- Flexible and versatile with various musical styles/presentations (choir, worship team, etc.)
- Able to help other staff members use music to aid discipleship in their respective ministries

About First Baptist Church Vernon
Our church is made up of people from various ages and walks of life. We have members of various professional backgrounds, including city officials, educators, health care professionals, ranchers, farmers, business owners, homemakers, and almost everything else in between. Our average attendance on Sunday morning pre-COVID was around 250 and we are starting to see numbers close to that as things return to normal. Our annual budget for 2021 is $875,000. FBC Vernon is passionate about equipping our members 1) to follow Jesus more closely and 2) to help others follow Him more closely.
