Description

Kingwood First Baptist Church in suburban Houston, Texas, is seeking a Senior Pastor

to provide spiritual leadership and accountability for the congregation and staff as well

as the overall leadership of the church and its ministries according to God’s Word,

church goals, and the Bylaws of Kingwood First Baptist Church. (Submission

instructions at the bottom.)

Qualifications:

 

  • Master of Divinity, Theology, Philosophy or Arts degree from University of similar

alignment with the Southern Baptist Convention’s 1963 BFAM, or Doctorate; or

equivalent relevant experience.

  • Experience serving as an Ordained Pastor for ten-plus years (preferred); with 5 or more

years as an Ordained Senior Pastor in a congregation with 500 or more in average

attendance in 2023 (desired).

  • Evidence of material digital and strategic innovation in the ministry
  • Evidence of ministry growth from specific data points.
  • Experience with three or more church plants, including mission trips, over the previous

ten (10) years.

  • Exceptional administration skills, including financial management, coaching, and

leadership development

  • Public speaking and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exhibits a passion for God and a Christ-like spirit.
  • Possesses spiritual maturity as exemplified in his ministry, personal character, family

witness, and example to the flock.

  • Possesses leadership skills necessary to lead and manage KFBC ministerial staff,

ministries, and programs.

  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Willingness to sign a covenant regarding matters concerning social, governance,

theological, and financial guidelines to guard the flock against secularization, regardless

of your future beliefs, such as protections for:

? Traditional family values & definition

? Our children (on and off campus)

? Our debt-free status

? Against theological hearsay

? Pro-life

? Baptist affiliation

  • Ability to write sermons, speeches, and articles using original or innovative techniques

and style.

  • Directed efforts to reach out and witness to the lost and unchurched; supports local,

regional, and world missions.

Responsibilities:

  • Seeking God’s will for KFBC through, for example:

? Regular prayer and Bible study

? Cultivating personal relationships with staff and lay leadership (e.g., the deacon

body)

? Community involvement: being visible in the local community and meeting with

local Christian leaders at least quarterly

 

  • Developing and implementing strategies and plans to bring about God’s will for KFBC

? Create clear milestones and measurable goals to promote alignment

? Assess, discuss, and address the issues most relevant for our church today,

similar to the Core Values exercise conducted Fall of 2023

 

? Discuss ministry plan with staff and lay leadership, as well as the congregation

  • Preaching regularly on Sunday mornings and leading in observance of ordinances
  • Discipleship:

? Direct discipleship of senior KFBC staff and lay leadership

? Promoting discipleship of the broader church family

  • Evangelizing and church planting: Actively promote efforts to spread the gospel in our

Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth

  • Administrating the church staff: supervise the work and ministries of ministerial staff and

take a personal role where appropriate in areas such as:

? The content and style of worship services, including sermons, music, and

ordinance

? Church-wide religious education programs and curriculums

? Any retreats or other church-wide or sub-group gathering (Men’s, Women’s,

Youth, Children’s)

? Visiting members and prospects; visiting congregation in the midst of crises

  • Developing church staff: understand their spiritual gifts, strengths, and career aspirations

and ensure effective development plans are in place for professional growth and

development.

  • Preparing and maintaining succession and contingency plans for all church leadership

positions

  • Leading the deacons, church officers, and committees as they perform their

responsibilities

  • Cooperating with the associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters of

mutual interest and concern; keeping the church informed of denominational

developments as applicable; representing KFBC in civic / community matters

Annual performance reviews:

To promote accountability and alignment, the Senior Pastor shall conduct the following

performance reviews at least annually:

  • Senior Pastor performance review with the Personnel Committee or its replacement, with

the review consisting of the following:

? Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as church growth and giving metrics,

church plant statistics, number of members on mission trips, number of meetings

with local leaders – whatever indicators the Senior Pastor and Personnel

Committee (or its replacement) feel are relevant. If it’s measured, it’s done.

? Written feedback from church staff, lay leadership, community religious leaders,

and personal accountability partners.

? Progress on ministry plan for KFBC (see above) as well as adjustments needed

? Personal development areas for the church pastor

? Development and succession plans for church staff

  • Church staff performance reviews for at least five staff members and all staff reporting

directly to the Senior Pastor, covering the following:

 

? KPIs (minimum three per ministry plus feedback from staff and accountability

partners)

? Ministry growth statistics and ministry plans

? Staff development areas and development areas for any staff reporting to that

staff member

? 360 feedback, where relevant
