Position Overview
The Senior Pastor serves as the primary shepherd and spiritual leader of First Baptist Church Wake Village, providing biblically faithful preaching, pastoral care, and leadership in accordance with FBC Wake Village Articles of Faith, while fostering unity among believers. The pastor will work alongside the church staff and the congregation to equip the church for discipleship, missions, and ministry in accordance with Christ-centered, biblical leadership.
Primary Responsibilities
Preaching & Teaching
• Faithfully exposit the Scriptures through clear, Christ-centered, expository preaching.
• Emphasize the gospel, the sovereignty of God, and the sufficiency of Scripture in all teaching.
• Provide doctrinal instruction through Bible studies, theological training, and discipleship programs.
Leadership & Vision
• Lead in a congregational-led model where church members have a voice in major decisions.
• Collaborate with deacons, and ministry leaders to guide the church in biblical vision and mission.
• Foster a culture of prayer, evangelism, discipleship, and missions.
• Shepherd and disciple church members, equipping them for ministry in accordance with their gifts.
Shepherding & Pastoral Care
• Serve as the primary shepherd and counselor, providing biblical guidance to individuals and families.
• Conduct pastoral duties, including baptisms, weddings, funerals, and church discipline with grace and wisdom.
• Encourage unity and love within the congregation, avoiding divisiveness over secondary doctrines.
• Actively visit and minister to members in need, including the sick, elderly, and those facing hardships.
• Participate in the broader community life surrounding the church, celebrating community events and preserving a good reputation with those outside the church.
Administration & Oversight
• Work with the congregation and leadership to oversee church decisions in a biblically responsible manner.
• Ensure financial stewardship and work with church leaders on budgeting and resource management.
• Mentor and oversee church staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
Qualifications
Spiritual & Theological Qualifications
• A man who meets the biblical qualifications for an elder (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:5–9).
• Adheres to the FBC Wake Village Articles of Faith while appreciating historical Baptist confessions.
• Strong commitment to the authority, inerrancy, and sufficiency of Scripture.
• A heart for pastoral care, discipleship, and missions.
Education & Experience
• Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological education from a reputable evangelical seminary (preferred).
• Licensed and ordained minister.
• 5+ years of pastoral experience, preferably in a Southern Baptist Church.
• Proven ability to faithfully preach, lead, and shepherd God’s people.
