Burkeville Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a full time, or possible bi-vocational, Pastor who proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ, teaches biblical revelation, engages in pastoral care ministry, and provides administrative leadership in all areas of church life in a rural community.  Praying for someone geared toward youth and outreach to grow our church.  Sunday School attendance ranges between 30-60.  Please send cover letter telling us a little about yourself, along with your resume to burkevillebaptistchurh2@yahoo.com

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the essential functions of the Senior Pastor:

A. Preaching and Worship Leader

  1. Prepares and delivers messages that are Biblically based, creative, and thought provoking to challenge congregation to become fully devoted followers of Christ.
  2. Leads evangelism efforts through preaching and giving invitations during worship services, revival, special church events, visitation, and outreach efforts.
  3. Oversees planning special worship programs and events.

B. Visioning and Discipleship

  1. Provides leadership for the church.
  2. Directs plans for ministry and Church growth, develops and fine-tunes the Church vision.
  3. Assesses educational programs and resources to ensure their integrity.
  4. Ensures that all classes (Bible Study, Sunday School, etc.) introduces basic biblical doctrines.

C. Staff Relations

Leads the ministerial staff.

  1. Oversees Church discipline and manages conflict in the Church.
  2. Seeks to reconcile relationships and promotes unity within the Church.

D. Pastoral Care

  1. Motivates, equips, and nurtures the members of the Church through leading by example, preaching and teaching God’s Word.
  2. Spends significant time in prayer and Bible study.
  3. Contacts/visits hospitalized or grieving Church members.
  4. Officiates at weddings and funerals.
  5. Provides premarital counseling, counseling regarding salvation and spiritual issues, and other forms of counseling for Church members.

Qualifications/Experience

A. The incumbent for this position must

  1. Possess leadership ability.
  2. Be an effective communicator with experience in teaching and preaching.
  3. Have experience in leading others to Christ and counseling.

 

B. The incumbent must possess the following spiritual gifts and traits. Must be

  1. Stable, mature Southern Baptist Christian
  2. Compassionate
  3. Discrete
  4. Possess the following attributes: personal relationship with Jesus, integrity, humility, fiscal responsibility, purpose driven, good communication skills, encourager, mentoring skills, peaceful, patient, apt to teach, gentle, not quick tempered and demonstrates perseverance.

Working Conditions

  1. May be required to travel extensively during the week to visit sick parishioners in the hospitals and at home or grieving families.
  2. Schedules office hours to conduct counseling sessions as needed.
  3. Provides a means to be contacted (i.e., cell phone, email, etc.) during emergencies or when there is a specific need to be contacted by parishioners.

Physical Requirements

The Senior Pastor may be required to do the following:

  1. Stand or sit for extended periods during Church worship services and special events.
  2. Spend time traveling (via automobile and/or other means of transportation) to and from appointments as required.

 

Supervision

  1. Receives suggestions from the body of deacons and directives from the church in business sessions.
  2. Supervises the paid church staff and advises various committees.

Finances

Oversees the spending of budgeted funds, except those not specifically delegated to others. Keeps a close eye on expenditures, actual and proposed, so as not to over-expend the annual budget.

Miscellaneous

  1. Receives two weeks of paid annual vacation, after one year of service, scheduling leave after consultation with the body of deacons. The one year waiting period for the first vacation may be waived by the church in business session should a prospective pastor request it.
  2. Schedules a maximum of two outside revivals annually and conducts same, with concurrence from the body of deacons as to dates.
  3. Receives two weeks advance written notice, or pay in lieu thereof, at the option of the church, should it be deemed advisable to relieve him of his duties; and conversely, give two weeks written notice should he wish to resign.
  4. Endorse and, to the best of his ability, complies with the “Qualifications for Church Leaders and Workers” as promulgated by the nominating committee.
