Summary

  • The Youth Pastor (YP) is to lead the students of the church to fulfill its mission faithfully, effectively, and lovingly. Work with the Pastor, staff, students, and their parents to develop, implement, and lead a ministry for students (6th grade through 12th grade).  He will serve as a member of the church council.  The Christian growth of the students should be this person’s primary concern.  The YP position is full-time consisting of approximately 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • The YP shall have been called by God to ministry and should have, or be pursuing, a degree towards that end (B.S., MDiv, etc.).
  • Some experience in youth ministry leadership expected, 3 years preferred.
  • The YP shall have a good knowledge of Scripture and Biblical principles, with the ability to communicate these in a relatable way to both youth and parents.
  • The YP shall have a good working knowledge of computer technology and resources to create, publish and distribute materials and media presentations as needed.
  • The YP must be available to lead and support scheduled youth ministry activities both during regular church wide meeting times and at other times outside regular times.
  • The YP must pass a background check and be qualified as a Mandated Reporter as required by State Law.
  • We prefer our YP to be married and have a healthy relationship with his spouse.

ACCOUNTABILTY

  • The YP is accountable to the Pastor, Youth Committee, Personnel Committee, and Church body.

GENERAL EXPECATIONS

  • Must have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Attend regular worship services and special services.
  • Must support and speak positively about staff, church leaders and members of CFBC.
  • Maintain flexible working hours as determined by the needs of the ministry.
  • Must have knowledge concerning relevant legal guidelines, laws, and ethical issues.
  • Aligned with CFBC vision, goals, values, and policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a presence in the lives of the youth of CFBC. This can be achieved by going to the student’s schools and/or school events, reaching out to them regularly with encouragement (this can include cards, calls, and/or appropriate means of technology), and seek to create in-roads to get new students to CFBC.
  • Work with the Youth Committee, youth Sunday school teachers (when relevant), and leaders to plan a program for leading youth to a knowledge of the plan of salvation and to discover and develop their spiritual gifts.
  • Promote respect for authority, for parents, and for each other.
  • Meet and counsel students and their families as needed.
  • Organize and lead a student outreach ministry that focuses on evangelism and discipleship.
  • Establish and maintain routine communications with parents.
  • Coordinate the planning of student activities with the Worship Pastor in relation to youth choir and band.
  • Create and maintain safe and welcoming environment for guests, students, and their families.
  • Responsible for all teaching materials and curriculum for student youth Sunday school, Sunday and Wednesday nights as well as special groups such as DNow, retreats, or other events as planned.
  • Lead in both small and large group Bible studies.
  • In conjunction with SS Director, recruit and train youth Sunday school teachers and leaders.
  • Verify all youth leaders have an up-to-date background check on file in the church office.
  • With the assistance of the Youth Committee, develop a budget for the Youth Program. Manage program within the approved budget.  Oversee any special fundraising projects approved by the Pastor and Youth Committee.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, retreats, and conferences as directed.
  • Assist other ministerial staff to develop annual church calendar.
  • Lead in a long-range plan for the Youth Division.
  • Encourage Sunday school teachers and leaders to participate in visitation of prospects and absentees in Youth Division.
  • Visit hospitals and shut-ins on a weekly basis.
