Associate Minister of Preteen 

Role Overview:

The Preteen Minister at Southcrest Baptist Church plays a pivotal role in shepherding 5th and 6th graders through a critical stage of spiritual and personal growth. This position is essential in fostering a Christ-centered, engaging, and relational ministry environment that aligns with Southcrest’s core values of Faithfulness, Authenticity, Equipping, and Generosity.

The Preteen Minister will develop and oversee all aspects of preteen discipleship, working closely with parents, volunteers, and staff to ensure that preteens feel connected, challenged, and encouraged in their faith. This role is central to cultivating a ministry that bridges the gap between childhood and the student ministry. It’s primary goal being to prepare preteens for a lifelong walk of finding their pleasure and purpose in Jesus. 

This position reports directly to the Kid’s Lead, Kellie Martin and is a part of the Ministry Team, which is led by Landon Holly.

Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership

  • Model and encourage spiritual growth, fostering a culture of discipleship and biblical teaching.
  • Partner with parents to equip them as the primary disciple-makers of their preteens.
  • Collaborate with the Children’s Ministry, Student Ministry, and other church ministries to create a seamless discipleship pathway.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and develop volunteers, ensuring they are placed in areas of giftedness.
  • Foster a healthy team and relational trust among volunteers and ministry staff.
  • Provide ongoing encouragement and support for leaders working with preteens.
  • Hire, guide, and develop Residents into strong and effective leaders. 

Ministry Oversight

  • Develop and maintain programs that support the mission of the Kid’s Team and the vision of the church.
  • Oversee and implement doctrinally sound, age-appropriate curriculum for Sunday mornings and midweek gatherings.
  • Lead the follow-up and assimilation strategy for new families and students.
  • Plan and execute special events, retreats, and service opportunities throughout the year.
  • Develop, present, and manage the Preteen’s ministry budget and set annual goals for growth and impact.
  • Cultivate a welcoming and engaging environment for preteens and their families.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Work with the Communications Department to develop and distribute ministry-related materials.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and maintain clear communication with leadership.
  • Complete necessary forms, reports, and planning documents in a timely manner.
  • Flexibility to accept and execute additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Gifting:

Spiritual & Ministry Qualifications

  • A mature Christian, who demonstrates growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Commitment to the vision, values, and beliefs of Southcrest Baptist Church.
  • Experience working with preteens and an understanding of their unique developmental stage.
  • Passion for equipping and discipling the next generation.

Leadership & Organizational Skills

  • Strong leadership abilities to guide teams and develop volunteers.
  • Ability to create and implement strategic ministry plans.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) to connect with preteens, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and events with attention to detail.

Educational & Experience Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or seminary training is preferred.
  • Experience in a local church setting is essential.

This Person Is:

  • Passionate about reaching and discipling preteens.
  • A strong communicator and relational giant.
  • Team-oriented and highly collaborative.
  • A self-starter who takes the initiative.

This Person Is NOT:

  •  A lone wolf or someone who struggles to work in a team.
  •  Lacking in initiative or unable to problem-solve.
  •  Uncomfortable handling conflict or providing leadership direction.
