Title: Pastor of Discipleship & College
Reports to: Lead Pastor

- Discipleship (helping assimilate new members and new attendees)
- Family Discipleship (develop an overarching plan for discipleship from Pre-K to Seniors to help produce healthy followers of Jesus Christ)
- Overseeing and Managing Adult Small Groups
- Overseeing and Managing College Ministry
- Maintain Office Hours and other Ministerial Responsibilities.
A little about Stephenville:
Stephenville TX is located 67 miles southwest of Fort Worth. It is a growing community with a lot of its growth coming from the extreme growth of Tarleton State University. From 2000 to 2025, the town has experienced a 54% growth; when Tarleton State University is in session, the town has around 45,000 people.
Stephenville is known as “The Cowboy Capital of The World” with a large cattle, dairy, and rodeo heritage. According to the Economic Development Center of Stephenville, in the past decade, the town has gone from a “pass-through” town to a “destination” town and seen a lot of retail growth with no signs of slowing down.
A little about Tarleton State University:
Tarleton State University, which is located in the heart of Stephenville and only a few blocks from Harvey Baptist Church, is experiencing unprecedented growth. This year, the university set another record-breaking enrollment of 18,000 students, up from just 8,000 students a little over a decade ago. Even with many college ministries in the town, it is estimated that only 10% of the students are being reached with any college ministry. Given the nature of new students moving in every semester, there is a great opportunity and a mission field just two blocks away from Harvey Baptist.
A little about Harvey Baptist Church:
Harvey Baptist Church began in 1904 and is a faithful cooperating church of the SBC and SBTC, giving generously to the Cooperative Program.
In 2024, Harvey saw growth both numerically and financially, averaging 300 attendees between two services, receiving the largest yearly offering ever in its history, and giving the largest offering to the CP and Lottie Moon ever in its history.
While we are experiencing growing pains with our current facility, we have added a remodeled metal building for the college ministry in 2024, remodeled offices and student ministry area, and built a large outdoor pavilion area for gatherings and hangouts.
About The Position:
Due to its growth, Harvey Baptist Church is looking to add a third Pastor position.
This position would primarily be over discipleship and college while also having Pastoral responsibilities of filling the pulpit in the absence of the Lead Pastor and assisting with other pastoral duties such as counseling and hospital visits.
Specifically with discipleship, the Pastor of Discipleship and College would help develop and implement an overarching discipleship strategy for children-students to aid in producing theologically sound and healthy students who graduate from Harvey and know what they believe and why they believe it. This position would also assist and formulate our other adult small groups to make sure that they are aligned for growth and create new small groups as needed.
The second part of this position focused on college ministry, would be in charge of Harvey Baptist’s campus outreach efforts, and leading a Tuesday Night College Bible Study.
Currently, we run around 25 on Tuesday nights for our college ministry, which is currently maintained by volunteers.
However, this would be under the leadership of the Pastor of Discipleship and Students, and he would be given the freedom to shape and form that ministry as he is led to reach college students and develop them into faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Professing believer in Jesus Christ; baptized by immersion.
- A College Graduate and preferably has some seminary education or is currently pursuing it.
- Demonstrates a Call to Ministry
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Professing a doctrine aligned with the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.
General Requirements:
- It will be required, as a condition of employment, to undergo a pre-employment background check, and to pass and maintain MinistrySafe status, which is the expectation for all volunteers with students and children
- It will be required, as a condition of employment, to agree to and sign the HBC Moral Integrity document.
- Provide the appropriate ministry functions (pastoral care, worship services, hospital visitation, prospect contacts, as needed.)
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Have a positive, energetic, encouraging spirit.
Salary Range:
$60,000 - $65,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
